35. Gendry

It seems that Gendry got the best parts of his true father, King Robert I Baratheon. After all, Robert wasn’t always the buffoon we got to know in Season 1. He was quite the soldier in his heyday, brave and bold, and he passed those qualities on to Gendry.

Gendry comes across as a nobleman in training. He’s obviously a good listener, and strikes up a friendship with Arya. We think he would have been a great fit in the Brotherhood Without Banners. Instead, they sold him to Melisandre, who blue-balled him for his precious king’s blood. Apparently, his blood is powerful enough to waste three kings, so we’re dealing with a character with a lot to offer.

We’re glad Gendry got away when he did. Joe Dempsie portrayed a very likable character who gave us a respite from the show’s preferred blend of dark action and heavy-handed drama. It’s possible Gendry could show up again in Season 7 and revive House Baratheon. We’ll be rooting for him.
