The Game of Thrones production has finished its eventful two-day shoot in Cáceres, which included a grim parade scene in King’s Landing and a much more light-hearted scene where Sam, Gilly, and Little Sam ride through the streets of Oldtown. The production has now packed up, and residents are bidding it goodbye.
One fan managed to snag a photo with Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) before she departed. Whelan has kept a pretty low profile during the filming season, but it’s good to see her pop up.
So is this the end of Season 7 filming in Cáceres? We were under that impression. Allowing for a Christmas break sometime soon, we expect the team to continue filming in Belfast, long the show’s production headquarters, and to shoot scenes in Iceland in the new year, which is sure to be a frigid treat for everyone involved. However, Hoy is reporting that the production may return to film more scenes in King’s Landing in January.
It’s possible. After all, we didn’t expect the production to turn up in Dubrovnik, Croatia to film scenes for Season 7, but that’s what happened. (Today is the final day of filming there.) Dubrovnik is also standing in for King’s Landing, and the production brought along an ice machine to simulate snowfall in the city. Might it return to Cáceres in chilly January hoping to get some snow?
Probably not, as Cáceres has a mediterranean climate that can produce rainfall but little snow. (Even today, in the middle of December, the temperature is 44 degrees Fahrenheit.) Still, never say never when it comes to Game of Thrones. We’ll keep an eye out.
