Season 7: New photos from King’s Landing filming in Dubrovnik
By Dan Selcke
Last week, the Game of Thrones production made a surprise stopover in Dubrovnik, Croatia, which the show has used to stand in for King’s Landing for years. Lena Headey (Cersei) was there. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) was there, and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (the Mountain) was there. There were also some extras dressed in terribly interesting outfits, like so:
Headey, Coster-Waldau, and Björnsson were only in the city for a day, but according to The Dubrovnik Times, the production stuck around for two more, filming on the stone steps of the Dominican Monastery and a few other areas around Dubrovnik’s historic Old City. There were some photos from the second day of shooting, too—as you can tell by the fake snow, winter has come to King’s Landing.
That’s director Jeremy Podeswa running the show, by the way, which means this scene will appear in either the premiere or the finale of Season 7.
Now, The Dubrovnik Times has released a few more pics from filming, including another look at an extra in that striking black armor.

So that’s at least two actors wearing the new black-and-silver regalia. It seems increasingly likely that this is the garb worn by members of Cersei’s new Queensguard. Note that the color scheme goes with her own outfit.
So she’s just embracing the dark colors of villainy. You do you, Cersei.
There also appear to be extras dressed as Gold Cloaks (the city guards of King’s Landing), sans helmets.

Again, the fact that most of the extras are dressed a little more ordinarily suggests that the black-and-silver getups are only worn by a select few elite soldiers.
The Game of Thrones production will take a break for Christmas—Emilia Clarke said as muc a few months back.
But in the new year, shooting starts again. I hope the cast enjoys freezing temperatures. Winter, after all, has come.
