Westworld Theory: What does Delos really want?

We know that Delos has plans for Westworld that differ from Ford’s plans, but what could the mega corporation want?

Delos isn’t dead. Even if the hosts kill the entire board, and I’m not sure they will, the corporation isn’t dead. I think Delos is going to continue to play a big role in Westworld. Just because the hosts have “revolted” and the park might be a loss doesn’t mean that whatever further goals Delos had for the code is off the table.

There are several ways the story could play out from here. Delos could go in guns blazing to try to eliminate the hosts, but then they might risk losing the code or harming people who are still in the park. If the hosts don’t kill the entire board and take some of them hostage they will also have a valuable bargaining tool.

The other option is that Delos is going to look for a tech solution while pretending to negotiate with the hosts. This could be interesting because it could pit Dolores/Wyatt against Bernard. Bernard is going to want to be careful and controlled, while the Wyatt side of Dolores is going to want chaos.

But what does Delos really want? It could be that they just want the code to make bigger and better parks, but that seems too small. The code could be valuable to introduce robot servents of a kind to the real world, but would you want your robot servant to look real or like a machine? If this was the end goal you wouldn’t want to think of them as a human.

Another possibility is troops for the military. We don’t know the political situation or what might be going on in the world during Westworld, but why an army of hosts would be valuable to any major power is pretty clear.

Politically they could also use the hosts to possibly replace people in power with hosts they control. We saw this in the game Fallout 4 when the Institute replaced people with host versions of themselves. We also know that Fallout 4 was a big inspiration for Westworld.

The last and most spine tingling possibility is that they want to use the host code to bring people back from the dead. How much would a billionaire pay to have a copy of his lost son? How much would a grieving spouse pay to have their partner returned to them? What if a rich and powerful person was dying? Could they put their memories and consciousness into a host?

Some of the ideas are going to be fascinating to explore and it really shows you how deep Westworld could go. If you thought this was just going to be about the park you’re missing the big picture.
