A 3D Printing Of The Westworld Maze

facebooktwitterreddit

This very cool video shows the Westworld maze being 3D printed at 3000% speed.

The Westworld maze has become the symbol of the series. You see it everywhere on t-shirts, mugs, beer glasses, even jewelry. The maze has become as ubiquitous to Westworld as the TARDIS is to Doctor Who or the Starfleet emblem is to Star Trek. It’s obvious that Westworld’s maze is here to stay, even if it doesn’t play a big role in the second season of Westworld.

The popularity of Westworld’s maze is one reason this video is so cool, the other reason is that the video is in a way very meta. This video shows the maze being 3D printed at 3000% speed, and you can’t help but think about hosts being printed as you watch it. It does a beautiful job of being an interesting video on its own, and making you think about how far we really are from creating hosts of our own.

The music they set the video too really helped set the mood as well, and that they used a white plastic. It’s hard not to draw comparisons to Westworld’s opening theme.

But even if we can 3D print a maze surely we are a long way off from having hosts in every other regard though, right? Well, perhaps we aren’t…

This robot doesn’t look too scary, but then it starts answering questions.

This is why Westworld is just so much fun, it’s science fiction to be sure, but it’s science fiction set in a future that is relatively close. This isn’t thousands of years away or in a distant galaxy, these are real issues and problems that we may face one day.
