Peter Dinklage in talks to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, and other cast member news

Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) may be joining the cast of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity WarVariety reportsInfinity War, if you haven’t been following the explosion of Marvel movies these past nine years, is an upcoming edition in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, and will find heroes like Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) facing off against the villainous Thanos (Josh Brolin), an alien dictator intent on the destruction of Earth (we’re assuming).

At the moment, Infinity War is scheduled to be a multi-part affair, with two films to be released on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019. Variety reports that Dinklage is set to appear in both, but doesn’t know who he might play. Notably, Dinklage played villain Bolivar Trask in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. But as that film was produced by 20th Century Fox and Infinity War by Marvel Studios, it’s unlikely he’ll reprise the role—the studios have pretty strict rules against cross-pollination.

Infinity War is expected to shoot this summer. Hopefully we’ll know more soon.

Dinklage is far from the only Game of Thrones cast member with other irons in the fire. Check out the trailer for iBoy, a new Netflix series starring Maisie Williams.

The premise, briefly: teenager Tom (Bill Milner) finds out he’s developed superpowers after he’s attacked by thugs and gets pieces of smartphone lodged in his head. (Just go with it.) He sets out to get revenge on the thugs, who also assaulted his friend Lucy (Williams).

In cast members who have moved on from Game of Thrones, Finn Jones (Loras Tyrell) is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly this month. He’ll soon be appearing in a Netflix series called Iron Fist, playing a superhero of the same name. That’ll premiere on March 17, 2016. After that, Jones will play Iron Fist in a Netflix miniseries called The Defenders, where he’ll appear alongside the star of the three other Marvel superhero series on Netflix’s roster: DaredevilJessica Jones, and Luke Cage.

Superheroes are taking over entertainment, if you hadn’t noticed. Anyway, EW put together this video talking with all of the stars, including Jones, on the set of their cover photoshoot.

Begin segue: there’s a character on Luke Cage named Cottonmouth, played by actor Mahershala Ali. (Ali is receiving a lot of awards buzz for his work in Moonlight, although he just lost the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe to Aaron Taylor-Johnson. #Robbed) Ali recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and revealed that he once auditioned for the part of Xaro Xhoan Daxos (Nonso Anozie) on Game of Thrones…and that it didn’t go well.

“That was one of the worst auditions of my life.” Ah, well. Best of luck at the Oscars.

Finally, Game of Thrones executive producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss appeared in the newest episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, “The Gang Goes to a Water Park.” You can catch a glimpse of Benioff, as a water park operator, at 0:12.

This might seem like a random place for Benioff and Weiss to turn up, but then you remember that the pair of them wrote an episode of the show (“Flowers for Charlie”) for its ninth season, and that director Matt Shakman, who’s directed literally dozens of Always Sunny episodes, is directing two episodes of Game of Thrones Season 7. Clearly, the people on the two shows are fans of each other.
