Season 7 filming: Kristofer Hivju (Tormund) joins other cast members in Iceland

Yesterday, we reported that a couple of Game of Thrones cast members had shown up in Iceland, where the production was filming a scene on the Black Sand Beach, which is named for exactly what you think it is, near the town of Vík. Now someone else has shown up. Beware SPOILERS.

The scene being filmed a couple of days ago involved a couple of boats coming ashore or shoving off.

Cast members in the area include Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Joe Dempsie (Gendry) and Rory McCann (the Hound). Word is that a group of characters will travel north of the Wall in Season 7—it looks like they already filmed parts of that journey elsewhere in the country. The scene at the Black Sand Beach is probably a waypoint during that trip.

Now, Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane) has also popped up. He posted this picture to his Instagram today:

As you can see on the side of this vehicle, this is a LARC-XV, an “aluminium hulled amphibious cargo vehicle” that can travel both on land and in the water. (Shark design not standard.) As Watchers on the Wall points out, this particular kind of LARC-XV is found in Iceland, as evidenced in part by a photo of one taken at Skeiðflötur, which is very near the Black Sand Beach, some years back. The utility of such a vehicle to a beach shoot is obvious—it would be useful for lugging rowboats and props in and out of the water.

We’ll keep an eye out for what this merry band of actors gets up to next.
