The Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff is Closing but What About Cardiff?

The Doctor Who Experience has been a tourist attraction for quite some time but come this summer, it will be closing its doors forever.

For the people of Cardiff, the Doctor Who Experience is a tourist trap that makes them quite a bit of money in trade. But now that the fan experience is closing its doors, what is going to happen to the surrounding area?

While film shoots will still take place in the Welsh city, many visited Cardiff that would not have otherwise because of the Doctor Who Experience. Millions of people went out to see memorabilia from their favorite show and to get to walk inside the TARDIS.

While fans may be losing something precious, the people who rely on those millions of people visiting Cardiff lose that much more. As with any tourist attraction, when it goes away, so does the money. For many, their livelihoods were made on the people who came to town just for the exhibit.

Having existed from 2006 until now, the Experience itself has had many lives. It started in 2006 in the Red Dragon Centre. Soon after it moved to London before finally settling in the building it is famous for in Cardiff in 2012.

There are currently a number petitions out there to try and save the Doctor Who Experience but the BBC has yet to comment on them. Until they do, we all just have to hope that they will change their mind and keep the museum open. I mean, where else do you get to go inside of the TARDIS like that?
