New Doctor Who Showrunner Will Lead Hunt For The Next Doctor

The New Doctor Who showrunner, Chris Chibnall, will get to choose the new Doctor, but he won’t make the decision for a while yet.

By now you’ve probably heard the news about Peter Capaldi leaving Doctor Who at the end of the year. (If you haven’t, you must not have been near a screen or wifi connection in the last few days.) The new Doctor Who showrunner, Chris Chibnall, will take over for Mofatt after the Christmas special for season 10. This means Chibnall will get to choose the thirteenth doctor, but he’s in no hurry to make a decision.

This means Chibnall will get to choose the thirteenth doctor.

There has been so much internet buzz about who’s going to get the new role, we can’t really blame Chibnall for not being so quick to jump into the fray.  RadioTimes reports he, “will have the ultimate say on who the new Doctor is. Although his decision has to be rubber-stamped by BBC director of content Charlotte Moore and head of drama Piers Wenger.”

BBC insiders went on to say to that he plans to take a nice long holiday after his tenure at Broadchurch ends later this year. This makes good sense to those of us who have been glued to our screens for the last few days, reading every tweet, post, and message about who should be the new Doctor.

Chibnall can’t really pour all his attention to the upcoming Who season directly He still has loose ends to tie up over on season 3 of his ITV crime drama Broadchurch (which stars former Doctor Who David Tennant). Filming for season 11 won’t begin until early in 2018, with a projected premiere somewhere in late autumn of 2018.
