Another British actor wants to be the new Doctor Who, but this one is already a very familiar face to audiences.

I get it. You’re tired of hearing about who’s going to be the new Doctor Who. Since Peter Capaldi announced this would be his last season, there’s been an incredible amount of chatter about who will take his place.

And now there’s more. British soap actor, Danny Dyer, told The Daily Star that he’s super into the idea . He says, “I’d be interested in it. I could see myself in the scarf and all that.”

The East Enders plays Mick Carter on the long running drama since 2013. These days he’s got his sights set on a very different universe. He told The Star, “I think it’s about having charisma and personality. I’d love something like that.” He went on to say he could “do it easy,” and similar to Capaldi, “I’d keep my accent.”

His fans are all over this. They even sent a petition to Parliament that read, “Peter Capaldi recently announced that he will no longer continue in the role of the Time Lord. My understanding is that Danny Dyer has a contract in Eastenders until October this year. Mr Dyer should then move into the position of the new Doctor.”

The governing body rejected the petition, of course. Here was their response: “It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not responsible for.” The reply went on to suggest, “you might like to write to the BBC to make this suggestion.”

Dyer is thrilled with the suggestion and all the fan support. He won a BAFTA award for his character on East Enders, but his contract ends in October of this year. That leaves plenty of time for showrunners to work in the former Walford resident into the Whoniverse.
