Doctor Who and the American President John F. Kennedy

Of all the episodes of Doctor Who, there is very little mention of JFK. It is interesting because his assassination played a huge part in the premiere.

Doctor Who and the death of John F. Kennedy is something that fascinates me. The show, destined to start on the day that JFK was assassinated, has been featured on older Who episodes but the new series hasn’t seemed to touch the assassination.

There are plenty of reasons why the show would want to keep its distance from the real life tragedy that stuck America back in November of 1963. But still, the show, which has dealt with the Doctor and his companions going back in time to kill Hitler, should definitely bring it into the new series.

It’d be an interesting story to see. If not the assassination, then maybe just John F. Kennedy himself. He had a relationship with the Doctor so why wouldn’t the Doctor go back and see JFK? Maybe he has to help with the Cuban Missile Crisis or maybe the Doctor tries to help Bobby Kennedy after John’s death.

Maybe the Doctor, despite his rule to not meddle, helps Ted so he doesn’t end up accidentally killing someone in a car crash. There is just a lot of U.S history that hasn’t been explored (for obvious reasons) but they do go back in time to deal with countries that are not the United Kingdom specific.

So my plea is this, open up your hearts to the United States and our decent presidents! They’d make pretty great episodes if you give them a shot. If the Kennedys aren’t your fancy, don’t forget about Lincoln, Washington, and maybe even do the Founding Fathers!
