The odds are in Tilda Swinton’s favor to be the new Doctor when Peter Capaldi leaves at the end of the year. Bookies are calling her the new favorite.
Tilda Swinton is the bookies’ favorite for the new Time Lord, enjoying 7/2 in the general odds, according to the betting house, Ladbrokes. The award winning actress is even more popular in Scotland, with 10/1 odds in her favorite.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Whovian punters are becoming increasingly convinced the next Doctor will be female, and fingers are currently pointing towards Swinton.”
Swinton, who has not publicly expressed any interest in playing the thirteenth Doctor is hotly tipped by odds-makers. If she does get slated to fill Capaldi’s shoes, it’s going to be a big job. Doctor Who was recently voted as the second most popular show on the BBC, behind Sherlock.
Swinton is among a dozen or so other actresses that are climbing the ranks in the polls. Second behind Swinton is Kris Marshal at 7/2 and then Olivia Coleman at 4/1.
Although Swinton would bring her Oscar winning swag to the role, the Ladbrokes poll is the first to publicize her odds. Before now, the Whoniverse has been imploding since Peter Capaldi’s announced his departure last month.
There has been speculation about whether the new Doctor will be a woman, and this Swinton polls seems to fall in line with the popular opinion about diversifying the role.
