Details on Game of Thrones SXSW panels and interactive exhibits

HBO typically maintains a large presence at the annual media conference bonanza that is South by Southwest, and 2017 appears to be no different. In addition to the previously announced panel featuring showrunners David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and actresses Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams, HBO has a few more surprises up its sleeve for Game of Thrones fans.

According to an official press release, Game of Thrones will feature in a unique experience dubbed HBO: The Escape.

"“{It’s} an “immersive escape-the-room style experience featuring rooms themed to different HBO shows (Silicon Valley, Veep and Game of Thrones).”"

Interesting, but let’s be clear here HBO, no one wants to escape a Game of Thrones themed experience. Even if the escapees are promised a chance to sit the Iron Throne upon successful completion. Additionally, fans will be offered a chance to sample HBO’s new line of Game of Thrones themed wines, courtesy of Vintage Wine Estates and HBO Global Licensing, as well as to purchase HBO merchandise from all your favorite shows. OK, the wine might make us want to leave the Game of Thrones escape room.

As for the featured panel at SXSW on March 12th, which Winter is Coming will be attending, the press release notes that it will be a conversation with Weiss, Benioff, Turner and Williams, but no other details.

Some are expecting the first official trailer for season 7 to debut as well, or at least some level of new footage. Stay tuned for details.
