More Revelations About The Season 10 Finale: Missy Is Back

More is coming out about the last two episodes of the season 10 finale, and it looks like Missy will help close out Moffat’s last season.

As we revealed earlier, the Cybermen will return as the last villains Peter Capaldi’s Doctor will ever defeat (?).  But now the BBC has confirmed that Michelle Gomez will appear in the two-part season 10 finale.

Missy is the current incarnation of The Master, the Doctor’s childhood friend and current nemesis, but it’s unclear who’s side she’ll be on in Steven Moffat’s final turn as writer.

The season finale is directed by Rachel Talalay, who, coincidentally, also directed Missy’s first full story “Dark Water” and “Death Heaven” in 2014. That episode also featured the Cybermen.

As we know, Missy will also appear in the sixth (and maybe seventh) episodes of the final season.

"This news about her finale appearance has a lot of fans wondering if this will be Gomez’s shot at being the thirteenth doctor."

With all the casting rumors swirling, there’s been a dissension among fans about whether the long-running series will depart from it’s classic choice of a white man. Even Chris Chibnall has weighed in on the issue, suggesting the casting of a woman would be a “gimmick.”

Some purists want the show to keep with tradition, and stick with a male actor, but others are clamoring for showrunners to mix it up a little.

Although, I’m reluctant to speculate, Missy’s return in the finale seems fortuitous timing for the Doctor’s regeneration. It would a very hand transfer, since the Master is already lurking around with the Cybermen.
