26) PETER DINKLAGE

Peter Dinklage’s performance as the cynical Tyrion Lannister has been so towering that we tend to forget about his physical size. Dinklage himself has no problem with the ‘D-word’ or ‘M-word,’ as he explained to The Guardian in 2004:

"I hate all that ‘little person’ shit. Call me a midget, but just be real … People have the strangest ideas about dwarves. I met a guy last year in a bar, he was a friend of a friend and he was pretty toasty, and he said, ‘Dude, I was so scared of midgets, man. But you’re cool – you’re a guy, let’s hang out!’ So I put my face right up next to his and said, ‘This is your nightmare. I will see you tonight. When you wake, I’ll be sitting at the end of your bed.’"

The New Jersey-born Dinklage has given a number of brilliant performances, such as the stoic Finmar McBride in The Station Agent (2003, above, with Michelle Williams). Other roles include Trumpkin in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) and Dr. Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). His TV work includes appearances on Nip/Tuck (2006), 30 Rock (2009) and Sesame Street (2013).

While he’s achieved success in dramatic roles, Dinklage has also shown a penchant for comedy, such as his (Thrones parodying?) part as cosplayer Hung in 2013’s Knights of Badassery (above, with Sean Cook), as Eddie in Pixels (2015), Renault in The Boss (2016) and his hilarious portrayal of nasty children’s book author Miles Finch in Elf (2003).

Dinklage is wedging a lot of work around his Game of Thrones commitments. His 2017 projects list includes the feature films Rememory and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, plus a rumored appearance in the currently filming Avengers: Infinity War (2018).
