41) MAISE WILLIAMS

It’s been a long, tough road for Arya Stark — she and actress Maisie Williams have both grown up before our eyes. Game of Thrones was her acting debut, and in 2015 she told Flicks and the City she credited it with giving her an appreciation for strong female characters:

"I think she’s [Arya] a fantastic role model for girls. There is no gender stereotype, you can do with your life as you please. It’s almost by chance that I managed to take on this role so young and now that I’ve got a taste of playing these strong female characters that aren’t put into any sort of mould. I want to continue doing that."

Like many newcomers who were lucky enough to be cast on Thrones, the British-born Williams’ career has taken off. Her recent film work includes roles as Josie in Heatstroke (2013), Abbie in Gold (2014) and Lydia Lamont in 2014’s The Falling (above, with Florence Pugh). Her TV credits include The Secret of Crickley Hall (2012), Robot Chicken (2014) and the TV movie Cyberbully (2015).

It’s also nice to see Williams following the hallowed tradition of many Thrones alumni by appearing in Doctor Who — she played Ashildr/Me in several episodes in 2015.

Williams has been hard at work, with the features iBoy, The Forest of Hands and Teeth and Mary Shelley all in the mix in 2017.
