48) GWENDOLINE CHRISTIE

Brienne of Tarth is the classic errant knight in female form, and Gwendoline Christie has infused her with great strength of character.

The English-born Christie left bit acting parts behind after she got her gig on Thrones, jumping to bigger roles such as Lexi/Lucy in the TV series Wizards Versus Aliens (2012-2013), Commander Lyme in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 2 (2015, above) and playing herself in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (2016).

Then, Christie launched into the entertainment world stratosphere when she landed the part of Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, above). She talks about how much she enjoyed playing a villain with Refinery29 in 2015:

"It was hugely satisfying because I’ve always wanted to play lots of different parts. But after playing a character which I love so much for so many years who is dedicated to a moral good, it was very nice to inhabit a completely different psychology. And isn’t it always fun to be bad?"

Retaining her grip on the big franchises, Christie will return to both Game of Thrones and Star Wars (in The Last Jedi) in 2017.
