Screencap breakdown: The Game of Thrones season 7 promo trailer
By Dan Selcke
After wandering the halls of Winterfell, Jon Snow arrives at his destination:
It’s the Great Hall of Winterfell, the seat from which he’ll rule the North. Again, I might be projecting, but does Jon not look miserable at the prospect of ruling? We know he didn’t ask for his kingship. And his look contrasts with the steely determination in Dany’s eyes as she enters her new throne room…
…and with Cersei’s purposeful gait as she enters the throne room in the Red Keep.
Also note that the Red Keep throne room is now adorned with Lannister lions, where before it was decked out with seven-pointed stars. Cersei made her thoughts on the separation of church and state pretty damn clear last season.
Next, a quick sequence where all three of our rules observe their new thrones. Well, it’s more like a bench in Jon’s case. But he’s observing it.
There’s just the hint of a smile on Cersei’s face as she climbs the stairs to the Iron Throne. I bet it’ll take a while before that gets old for her.
Elsewhere, Dany ascends the throne. Props on the sensible heels. It’s hard to rule all day in uncomfortable shoes.
Following that, we get our first good look at Dany’s new throne. (Minor SPOILER incoming.)
It’s a very striking throne — hard and stark. I love the way the better part of it looks carved right from the rock of the room. I’m sure she’ll have a good time intimidating people from that perch.
Also, if you couldn’t tell by looking at it, she’s sitting at a throne in Dragonstone — it looks like Dany will make Stannis’ old stomping grounds her official seat when she arrives in Westeros. It’s unclear if we’ll see some of the old Dragonstone sets, or why Stannis didn’t use this throne when he was hanging out here. I like to think he knew about it but didn’t want to sit there — it looks too officious for him. And lord knows you can’t make Stannis do something he doesn’t want to do.
