We might get to see the Doctor fight an old, but favorite foe, the Movellans, in the upcoming season and we say “Yay!” for vintage villains.

We’re officially in countdown mode over here at Doctor Who Watch, so we’re gobbling all the clues was can find. The latest tidbit about season 10 is the possible appearance of an old fave, the Movellans.

Radio Times spent some time behind the scenes at the BBC Cardiff studios, and came back with all sorts of juicy news. Along with a dozen or so other bits of speculation, they’re betting on the appearance of the Movellans.

Using this photo, they’ve deduced that our favorite 70s monsters might make a cameo in the upcoming series. The #8 caption reads, “retro weaponry for a disco-era returning foe,” and that makes it seem more likely.

But who are the Movellans?

RadioTimes succinctly summarizes the villains as “anthropomorphic androids best known for warring with the Dalek Empire,” but they’re so much more to fans. They may look like a Rick James-knock offs, but they’re actually pretty dangerous.

“Being androids, the Movellans were strong and tough,” say some sources. But,” The major weakness of the Movellan design was each android’s external power pack which, being carried on their belts, was easily removed and completely shut down the android.”

The Movellans are locked in an infamous war with the Daleks, and their feud has been told and retold over the course of the show. For those of us who have been pouring over the season 10 trailers, we know that Daleks are present, so it could make sense to feature their archenemy, as well.
