Doctor Who Spoilers: The (Possible) Epic Christmas Episode
Already, more rumors surround us. Check out what’s churning today!
David Bradley, an alum of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones actor, has been toying with fans and press for months as he’s questioned about reprising his role as the first Doctor in an episode with Capaldi in Season 10. Before this rumored episode, he was in An Adventure of Space and Time, he played the First Doctor, as well as Hartnell himself. We wrote a little bit about his return in our rumor roundup, but here’s the whole story.
Now, it’s been reported multiple times that he will be back as the first Doctor in the Christmas episode, reported by the Mirror, Telegraph and the Radio Times. According to the Mirror, the episode will be about the First and the Twelfth Doctor once again saving the planet Gallifrey by moving it to another dimension.
But…didn’t they already do that in the 50th? According to Radio Times,
And just to add to the fun and games, we’re told that the first glimpse of Capaldi’s attack eyebrows in The Day of the Doctor was actually the prelude to his regeneration, which will then play out in the Christmas special.
This could explain how Capaldi is set to regenerate into the thirteenth Doctor but still come back in the Christmas special. It’s reminiscent of what Russel T. Davies did with David Tennant, called The Next Doctor, ironically not about the Eleventh doctor at all.
If this is true, this could be better than bringing back everyone Steven Moffat’s ever written. Capaldi’s doctor truly would go out with a bang.
Questions, though.
It wouldn’t be a good article if this didn’t churn up some questions. Does this give more weight to the fact that Samantha Spiro will come back as the Doctor’s granddaughter? She looks like the actress who played the granddaughter and given ageing, it seems like a good possibility.
But I’m confused about the storyline of the episode. This seems to be the first doctor and twelfth doctor’s version of the fiftieth-anniversary episode, and now we’re being told the possible first look we had at the Doctor could be one of our last looks at him.
I have to say, if this is all true, Moffat has outdone himself. …But why do we need Clara’s diner, which has been said to have been rented out for a couple days in July?
