The last episode with the Monks aired on the BBC America and BBC One on Saturday. The ratings for this season of Doctor Who has been shaky at best. The episode came out to good to shaky reviews, some going as far as saying that this was a bad arc at all.

In our own review of the episode, we questioned Bill’s ability to handle stress, as both times she was given a stressful situation and reacted with a disproportionate response. The first time, she gave up the human race to save the doctor, and the second time, she shot him.

So let’s see what the viewers thought of this episode and the episodes of the arc.

According to Doctor Who News, the episode got a shaky 3.01 overnight ratings, although they labelled them as “unofficial”. Even still, that doesn’t include the people who TiVo/DVRed it, people who watched it on iTunes or streamed it through Amazon Prime, and people who didn’t exactly do it the legal way.

Doctor Who TV also gave it the same viewing, as well as including a quick guide to what each number means:

(O) Overnight TV ratings only include those who watched it live and those who recorded it.

(C) Consolidated TV ratings include those who recorded and watched within a week.

(L+7) Live Plus 7 counts those who watched live and all repeats within seven days following broadcast. This also includes iPlayer.

(AI) Audience Appreciation Index is a score out of 100 which is used as an indicator of the public’s appreciation for a show. Over 90 is considered exceptional, 85 or over is excellent, 60 or less is poor, and less than 55 is very poor.

  • The Lie of the Land 3.01m (O) tbc (C) tbc (L+7) 82 (AI)

Despite that figure, this means that it was one of the lowest episodes of the season.

Let’s look at the arc as a whole:

It’s not surprising that most people watched Extremis though it is ironic to see that many people watched Pyramid at the End of the World, but were pretty much over the idea of the Monks by Lie of the Land, despite the fact that most people had the idea that this is where some regeneration was going to take place.
