Doctor Who: Are regeneration clues right in front of our eyes?

facebooktwitterreddit

Today, the twitterverse went insane as a very easy comparison was drawn if you knew the right place to look. The right place? The synopsis for the last two episodes of the season (before the Christmas episode).

Before we go into what we think may have cracked some of the secrets behind the regeneration, let’s talk about what we know (or don’t know).

What we know:

  • We know that the Doctor is regenerating this season.
  • We know that it’s not supposed to be like “any other regeneration”.
  • We know that it’s supposedly going to be earlier than any regeneration (remember this!)

What we don’t know

  • Who the Doctor’s going to be
  • When it’s going to happen (as the idea that people were thinking passed)
  • The circumstances around it (By 10 we knew by now the four knocks, with 11 we knew Trenzalore, but we don’t know anything about where or when this regeneration will take place.)

However, if you take a look at at the synopsis of part one of the two-part episode, World Enough Time.

Beware Peter Capaldi’s cross eyebrows in case you’re afraid of spoilers…

Synopsis of

"Friendship drives the Doctor into the rashest decision of his life. Trapped on a giant spaceship, caught in the event horizon of a black hole, he witnesses the death of someone he is pledged to protect. Is there any way he can redeem his mistake? Are events already out of control? For once, time is the Time Lord’s enemy…The Doctor is played by Peter Capaldi, Bill by Pearl Mackie and Nardole by Matt Lucas. Michelle Gomez guest stars as Missy."

Well, for one thing, it looks like Missy is definitely not coming back. The last time we saw the Doctor and the Master while the Master was dying was some of Tennant’s best acting. How will 12 act when he loses someone that’s been called his best friend, his wife, his arch enemy? We know that Michelle Gomez is not coming back, so this is the perfect way for her to leave, albeit horrible.

However, that’s not why we’re here.

Basically, the two part episode seems to be about redemption. People are speculating that the regeneration has already been filmed, and will be shown in the 11th or 12th episode (entitled The Doctor Falls). Either way, it doesn’t sound like a happy goodbye for 12…or Missy for that matter.
