EDDISON TOLLET 1.0: LOWLY MEMBER OF THE NIGHT’S WATCH

Known as “Dolorous Edd” for his pessimism and sarcasm, Tollet begins the show as another anonymous member of the Night’s Watch, a lowlife who joined at the age of 15.

Edd is a decent person, but he has his faults. At the end of season 2, Edd and Grenn abandon the slow Samwell Tarly when White Walkers attack the Fist of the First Men, although they make amends by helping Sam make it back to Craster’s Keep. Edd is loyal to Jon Snow, and volunteers to go on the expedition to eliminate the Night’s Watch mutineers in season 4.

EDDISON TOLLET 2.0: ACTING LORD COMMANDER OF THE NIGHT’S WATCH

Edd steps up during the Battle of Castle Black, dropping a massive scythe on wildling climbers after Jon Snow gives him command of the Wall. Although the wildlings are repelled, Edd knows Mance Rayder’s army still outnumbers the crows by 1,000 to one.

Edd survives the Battle of Hardhome alongside Jon, and is one of the handful of black brothers who are willing to protect his body after he is assassinated by Alliser Thorne and his mutineers. It is Edd who frees Ghost, and who slips away from Castle Black to ask the wildlings for help. Despite his crusty exterior, Edd proves himself a loyal friend and an able leader of men, and becomes the de facto Lord Commander when Jon leaves Castle Black.
