Go behind the scenes of season 7 with a new video about the special effects of Game of Thrones
By Dan Selcke
HBO has gifted us with another behind-the-scenes look at Game of Thrones season 7 with this new video, which explores the special effects used on the show. Check it out:
Game of Thrones special effects supervisor Sam Conway is the point of contact here, and it’s fascinating to hear about how he and his team create of the fantastical images the show has become known for. While he talks about the show as a whole, there are some images in there that are clearly from Game of Thrones season 7 specifically, including the shot of Daenerys, decked out in a red version of her new power suit (or does the lighting just make it look red) riding Drogon into battle. Or, well, I’m sure that rig will be Drogon by the time Conway and company are done with it.

We’ve also got a panoramic shot of the crew setting up for a huge battle scene filmed at Los Barruecos in Spain…
…and a shot of them managing fires on a ship set.
This is probably from a similar scene we saw in the trailer, where Theon looked on in horror as a ship went up in flames.
Game of Thrones season 7 debuts July 16.
