Game of Thrones season 7 is almost upon on us, and we can expect to see characters previously separated by large distances in the same place. Exhibit #1 is Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), who finally departed Essos for Westeros in the season 6 finale.

With a few exceptions, Dany has been isolated from the rest of the story. According to a recent interview with Clarke in Style Magazine, that could lead to friendly rivalries among far-flung cast members, who all tried to top each other with stories of how good a time they were having in their respective locations. “What we’re doing is really fun. Someone else will counter with, “What we’re doing is even better!” We’re winning. In the fun stakes.”

That will change in season 7. “There was a lot of laughing,” Clarke said of finally working with actors she’d known since season 1. “There was a lot of, ‘I can’t take you seriously.’”

Clarke also gave some insight into where Dany’s head is at, romantically speaking. For the moment, her focus is elsewhere. “I think that she has ultimately put aside her own need for a man,” Clarke said.

"She is so engaged and wrapped up in leading and being the queen and ruling and fulfilling her birth right that the idea of someone coming in and sharing that title is probably something she’s not comfortable with."

Looks like all those Jon/Dany shippers might have to be patient.

Clarke does like the idea of marriage for Daenerys, but not the kind you’re thinking of, saying that she admires “[t]he marriage between her feminine sensitivity and her genuine desire to help those less capable of helping themselves.”

"She’s fighting for people that don’t have rights. She’s got advice from everybody, and she just listens quietly, makes her own mind up, and is comfortable to stand next to the decision that she made. That kind of ability to not apologize."

Despite her comments, we are still pulling for a Jon Snow/Daenerys Targaryen union. Ice and Fire and all that.

Finally, Clarke touched on the most important topic regarding her character: her hair. “My hair could never ever get to what Daenerys’s hair is,” she said (she’s a natural brunette). “If you saw the wig, you could literally curl up with that thing. There is not a human being on the planet Earth who has that much hair. She has more hair on her head than Chewbacca.”

Game of Thrones season 7 debuts on July 16. Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, which Clarke is also in and where we’re guessing she got the inspiration for a Chewbacca reference, comes out May 25, 2018.
