Well, this is a bit of a letdown, Doctor Who fans. In case you were hoping for a touching grandfather – granddaughter reunion, it looks like you’ll have to keep waiting.

A few months ago, it was announced that Samantha Spiro would be coming on to Doctor Who. Many fans began speculating that she would play Susan, the Doctor’s granddaughter or perhaps even the next Doctor. No one knew very much, except for the fact that we were sure she played someone pivotal.

We were wrong. Hey, it happens!

In an interview with Radio Times, Samantha Spiro opened up about her character in The Doctor Falls. Despite the hope of the fans, she will not be playing Susan or the next regeneration of the Doctor. She’ll be playing Hazran, a character in a village planned to turn people into Cybermen.

"“As far as she’s concerned she lives on a farm, and it’s a very beautiful rural setting,” Spiro told RadioTimes.com.“The farmhouse where they live, she is protecting and looking after quite a few children, and there are adults who work the land as well. It’s fairly idyllic, usually, but where we catch her and their life they are under attack from the Cybermen – so thing’s aren’t great currently for Hazran."

While I’m sure Spiro will be amazing at this character, I don’t think any of us can deny it’s a letdown. But let’s not focus on what could have been, but how interesting this character will be. We’ll be able to see a human fighting the Cybermen – from what it looks like, by herself.

So try not to be too upset fans. The episode still has a lot to answer for, and we already have too much going on to add something on top. As much as Susan coming back would have been a great nod to Classic Who fans, we’ll just have to keep waiting.
