History

Brandon Stark is the second youngest son of Lord Eddard and Lady Catylen Stark. Fond of climbing, Bran was hurled out a high window by Jaime Lannister in the first episode of the series. The resulting injuries left Bran crippled and unable to walk.

However, Bran soon discovered he possessed powerful hidden talents, such as greenseeing and warging (seeing the future and possessing animals). Helped by loyal protectors like Hodor and Meera Reed, he journeyed north of the wall and found the Three-Eyed Raven, who helped Bran come to grips with his abilities.

Partway through Bran’s training, Bran accidentally alerted the Night King to his location, forcing him to leave the Three-Eyed Raven’s cave. Before he got away, the Night King and his army would kill the Three-eyed Raven, Hodor, and Summer, Bran’s direwolf. Bran and Meera were nearly killed by wights during their escape, but were rescued by Benjen Stark in the nick of time.

Benjen escorted Bran and Meera to a weirwood tree just north of the Wall, where Bran has a vision and learns that Ned Stark wasn’t Jon Snow’s true father. Now, he and Meera are presumably headed back to Winterfell, where Bran stands to see his family for the first time in years. It has potential to be a touching reunion, but Bran also must shoulder the responsibility for several of the people who died on his journey north.

On top of that, it’s unclear if Bran is prepared for his role as the new Three-Eyed Raven — his visions of the past are equipping him with a lot of knowledge, but he’s poised to face a foe who has a lot more experience than him. One way or another, Bran will soon be in the fight of his life.
