Game of Thrones Screencap Breakdown: “Stormborn”
By Corey Smith
Speaking of Winterfell, Jon is playing with the budget version of the map Dany uses in Dragonstone.
Jon receives another raven, this one delivered by Maester Wolkan. Those buggers are arriving at Winterfell every few hours these days. Still, Wolkan’s gotta be thankful he’s not working for the Boltons anymore. Terrible company culture there.
The letter was from Sam, and told Jon that Dragonstone is chock-full of dragonglass. Jon announces his intention to travel there and meet with Dany, which sends the fans into a frenzy, and his lords into a fury. These reaction shots say it all.
Sansa, kicking us off, thinks Jon is walking into a trap.
Yohn Royce’s line about not being able to trust a Targaryen is particularly ironic considering he’s speaking to Jon.
Lyanna Mormont makes a point about the King in the North staying in the North.
But through it all, Jon remains committed to making the trip. He tempers Sansa’s temper by leaving her in charge while he’s away. “You’re the only Stark in Winterfell,” he tells her. That makes Sansa smile just a little bit.
Littlefinger looks kinda pleased, too, which should worry everyone.
Before heading out, Jon visits the statue of his father in the Winterfell crypes. NED. FREAKING. STARK. Or if you prefer… SEAN. FREAKING. BEAN.
Littlefinger interrupts this private moment to brag about himself, but Jon is clearly having none of it.
The last time we saw Littlefinger slammed against a wall by his neck, Ned Stark himself did it. Jon is repeating his father-uncle’s actions, although we note that Ned’s body is now buried under that statue while Littlefinger is alive. Watch yourself, Jon.
We’ve rarely seen such fury from Jon Snow outside a battlefield. Bravo, Kit Harington. Who said you can only play brooding and grumpy?
Jon emerges from the crypts in no better mood. Grumpy Jon is back once again.
I love this shot of the Winterfell courtyard. Sansa looks on from up high as Jon readies to leave.
One last look to his sister…err, cousin.
Sansa returns Jon’s wave with a melancholy smile. You aren’t the only one who can pull off moody, Kit.
After Jon departs, Sansa lets the worry spread across her face.
And Littlefinger immediately begins scheming up some creepy plot.
God, look anywhere else.
