Game of Thrones Screencap Breakdown: “Stormborn”
By Corey Smith
For our final sequence, we jump to somewhere between Dragonstone and Dorne, as the Ironborn fleet ferries Ellaria Sand and the Sand Snakes back to Dorne to pick up to pick up their army. (Or are they on their way back to King’s Landing? It’s unclear.)
Ugh. The Sand Snakes. The trio are debating which one will get to kill the Mountain. Whatever gets the you through the night, you wastes.
Tyene chimes in with a wonderful comment about killing Nymeria and Obara before they reach King’s Landing. She’ll regret that comment in about five minutes. Also, where did she get that hair?
Yara and Ellaria are enjoying some drinks. Theon is pouting.
Ellaria attempts to seduce Theon, who is having none of it. Yara names Theon her “protector,” which is another comment someone is going to regret in the very immediate future.
Yara is more receptive to Ellaria’s charms, although their bliss will be short-lived.
A shockwave shudders through the ship, and the Greyjoy siblings hurry up on to the deck to find out what all the fuss is about.
It’s crazy Uncle Euron’s ship, the Silence, looking all kinds of intimidating. We hope Yara and Theon brought their brown pants.
From below, we see the Silence ram into Yara’s ship. Beautiful shot.
The Silence has more surprises in store, including an enormous killer gangplank with a wicked kraken carved into it. Euron knows the value of showmanship, as he proves below.
Here’ssssssss Johny!
Euron’s men are just as scary — this guy is wielding some sort of spiked knuckles. Time to abandon ship.
The Greyjoys engage. It’s lit.
Yara going full on badass in this shot, taking down one of Euron’s men.
Belowdecks, Tyene guards her mother Ellaria with a knife. That’ll come in handy against armored men with swords.
Back on deck, Euron is squaring off against Obara Sand. Our money is on Euron. Also, it’s very nice of everyone to give the pair some space.
After disarming Obara, Euron weathers her Kung Fu with a smile on his face.
Snapping Obara’s spear in two, Euron happily impales Obara with the halves.
And then, just for fun, lifts Obara up for all to see. Euron seems gleefully insane in this shot.
Because its hard to miss your sister being hoisted into the air on her own spear, Nymeria is noticeably upset about Obara’s death.
Nymeria has some very brief success with her whip, but because her name is not Indiana Jones, it does not last.
Euron chokes Nymeria to death with her own whip. Tyene might want to throw her knife overboard while she can.
Yara, who’s witnessing the ruination of her plans, is stunned.
Yara has a great view of the havoc Euron is wreaking on her fleet.
Yara turns her despair into rage and leaps down to battle Euron, sword in hand. What a glorious shot.
Euron is still maniacal glee personified, and is ready to face off with his niece.
Yara is able to stand her ground, but not for long.
Does the HBO Shop have Euron’s ax for sale yet?
Euron calls out to Theon, who’s been holding his own throughout the fight. He’s stunned at what he turns to find.
Euron holding Yara captive…Seriously, this guy is pure insanity. We’d almost like him if he wasn’t attacking Yara.
Theon is breaking right before our eyes. Kudos to Alfie Allen for shattering into a million pieces with just a few facial expressions.
Yara sees it — that’s her brother, after all. A single tear streams down her cheek. The world weeps with her.
Theon takes the quickest exit he can find, leaping off the ship into the water below. We are Jack’s broken heart.
Euron could not be happier. His laugh will haunt our dreams.
The only positive thing about the battle was seeing the dead Sand Snakes and realizing we won’t be subjected to their terrible dialogue ever again.
But then we’re brought right back down again when we see a despondent Theon in the water.
The episode fades to black with this epic shot: the Silence sailing away with Yara, as Theon drifts. Where does he go from here? Like, physically? Where’s the shoreline?
