Did you catch Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard’s cameo in “The Spoils of War”?

This past spring, it was reported that New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard, known as Thor, would appear on Game of Thrones season 7. Like all of the show’s celebrity cameos, the details were sketchy. As it turns out, Syndergaard’s appearance was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it type of cameo in “The Spoils of War,” which aired this past Sunday.

That’s the 6’6” Syndergaard in the middle, tossing his spear at an oncoming Dothraki horse. Syndergaard was most likely burnt to a cinder after the shot, but called the cameo “a dream come true” when speaking to Sports Illustrated in April. News of the cameo hit right around the time HBO announced a promotional partnership between Major League Baseball and Game of Thrones, although the two do not appear to be connected.

So far as season 7 celebrity cameos go, Syndergaard’s appearance was briefer than singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who appeared back in the season 7 premiere, also playing a Lannister soldier. Sheeran’s cameo was widely panned, so maybe brevity was working in Syndergaard’s favor.

Syndergaard, who has been sidelined since April with a partially torn lat muscle (not related to that spear throw), tweeted about the cameo Sunday night.

The Mets were also excited to see their pitcher on the show:

According to the New York Post, Syndergaard warms up to the Game of Thrones theme and named his gloves Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister, so clearly he’s a fan. “I couldn’t pass it up,” he said of when his agents got in contact with him about the opportunity. “I would love to do it again.”

Season 7 continues next Sunday with the ominously titled “Eastwatch.” Let’s see what other celebrities are hiding among the Lannister forces.
