While the BBC hasn’t made an official announcement, there has been word around some British news outlets that a companion has been cast. IF YOU WANT TO WAIT, DO NOT SCROLL DOWN.

I mean it. This is “attack eyebrows spoiler information”.

Don’t blink.

Don’t scroll down.

You’ll be dead. They are fast, faster than you can ever imagine.

Good luck.

To those of you who chose to take a chance and what Doctor Who spoilers, here’s what we know.

Between The Sun and The Mirror, we have rumors that Bradley Walsh, the 57-year-old BAFTA award-winning actor will be the companion to 35-year-old Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor.

A source said:

"“It means that his schedule over the coming months will be jam-packed – so he won’t be able to continue with the full range of programmes he currently makes for ITV.“But, crucially, it won’t affect his role as presenter of The Chase. He loves that show with a passion and so does the audience, so he’s delighted to have found a way to make it all work.”"

He will, of course, follow a range of young, female companions throughout the New Who series.

Why should I believe this?

Because there’s always a chance it’s right. I don’t know, you don’t know, no one knows. Even the Sun and the Mirror are reporting that this is still under wraps at the BBC. So I’ll admit it’s sketchy.

However, it definitely means a couple of things.

  • They’re looking at people in a new light for the companion. Chibnall obviously wants to change things up a lot. He’s not looking for a doctor/companion romance. He’s looking for a friendship.
  • The companions might be older. As I wrote before, Walsh is significantly older than Whittaker, so it seems that maybe we’ll be revisiting some different scenarios for companions than we’ve seen before. The closest we came to this was when Rory’s father went in the TARDIS with him.
  • That the BBC/Chibnall is most likely looking at a male. Whether it ends up being Bradley Walsh or Richard Madden, they’re not going to have two girls in the TARDIS.

What about his other ITV shows?

That’s where I worry a bit. The main issue I had with Phoebe Waller-Bridge was that people kept saying she was going to be on Doctor Who even though she had three projects going! That’s a lot, for any actor. But who knows what Chibnall plans for the companion? Maybe they come and go, and we’re looking at more Doctor-heavy television shows.

This is just the first of many names, I’m guessing. Unless BBC comes out and says something, I say we take what we can get?

What do you think about the massive change in the scenario? How will it change Doctor Who more?
