In all of the backlash of Peter Davison’s opinion of Jodie Whittaker, the fifth Doctor deleted his Twitter earlier this month.

He used the Twitter to tweet with his friend and ex-companion Janet Fielding (Tegan), as well as his fellow Doctors.

Unfortunately, when he admitted he wasn’t completely sold on the casting, he received enough backlash to deactivate his Twitter.

This is a trend of what happens when actors voice opinions that aren’t “correct”. I find it especially odd, considering so many people were critical of Whittaker, and still are. But because Peter Davison is a Doctor, he was expected to “fall in line”. Which absolutely isn’t fair to him. He should be allowed to have his own opinion, and express it freely.

In case any of you missed it, Peter Davison made an opinion that echoed what a lot of Classic Who fans were thinking. He was worried about the loss of a hero for boys because of the change. However, what many news outlets failed to report, is the full quote. Here is the actual quote from Davison at Comic Con.

"“If I feel any doubts, it’s the loss of a role model for boys who I think Doctor Who is vitally important for. So I feel a bit sad about that, but I understand the argument that you need to open it up.”"

Not once have I seen many outlets talk about the fact that Peter Davison acknowledged that he did understand, and complimented the actress. He just personally did not agree.

We can talk for days about whether or not what he said was right, but it’s completely wrong that he was forced off of Twitter. Many people are hoping that Janet Fielding can help get him back, but even she’s started receiving hate for standing up for him.

The moral is: allow people to have an opinion. Above all, it’s what we’ve learned from the past few weeks. And let’s hope that Peter Davison comes back to Twitter soon.

UPDATE: He’s baaaaaaack! Welcome back Peter!!
