Game of Thrones Screencap Breakdown: “The Dragon and the Wolf”
By Corey Smith
“Dark wings, dark words.”
Sansa recieves word that Jon has bent the knee to Daenerys. She is less than happy.
Meanwhile, Littlefinger casually plays with a direwolf figurine in a not-so-subtle bit of irony.
After all, he’s playing with a couple of real-life ones right now.
Dragonstone looking rather foreboding in this fog.
Dany and Jon make war plans. This might be the last time we see Dany’s awesome set of figurines.
The wide shot of the table reveals three direwolf figurines near the Wall. Jon must want to send more forces north.
This scene with Theon was easily one of the show’s most powerful. Also, note that Jon is standing very near to where he was standing when he first met Dany.
And now Theon has descended the steps, much as Dany did, to get right in Jon’s face.
Jon forgives Theon for his crimes against House Stark. Moments like these were severely lacking during season 7.
Out on the beach, the Ironborn are readying to leave.
But Jon’s forgiveness has done something for Theon. It’s restored his resolve.
I’m not sure what Alfie Allen is doing with his hands here, although in the books, at least, Theon’s missing a few fingers, which could explain the protrusions.
But there’s no question what Harrag the Ironborn asshole is doing with his hands: beating the crap out of Theon.
The crowd is all too happy to watch the thrashing.
Theon bleeds. We wonder if this was at all cathartic to him. He’s been beating himself up a lot — now it’s external.
Then, Harrag makes the mistake of kicking Theon where it no longer counts. Although, for the record, if you knee anyone anywhere three or four times, it will still hurt.
Theon just smiles a bloody grin, and bashes Harrag’s head in with his head.
Then comes the beatdown.
Theon’s fellow Ironborn aren’t sure what to make of the quick change of events, but they agree to join Theon on his quest to rescue Yara quickly enough.
More symbolism, as Theon is baptized anew in salt water, just like how he was before leaving to take Winterfell. Still, salt water is the last thing you want in an open wound. That stuff burns.
