According to comicbook.com, who recently had an interview with Steven Moffat, the Christmas episode is supposed to have many sad, but beautiful moments, the best brought by Jodie Whittaker.
These include what he described as a “breathtaking” performance by David Bradley as the first Doctor. He also talks about how well Peter Capaldi does bowing out of his role as the twelfth Doctor. Moffat warns that our hearts are going to be in pieces.
"“He’s going to break your heart! Your heart is going to be in pieces by the end of this.”"
Surprisingly, he did say something about Jodie Whittaker. And it’s something that might give us an insight into what kind of Doctor we’re expecting. After all the heartbreak from the episode and the sadness of a regeneration, Moffat promises that Jodie Whittaker will be the only thing to cheer us up.
"“Only Jodie Whittaker will be able to cheer you up again.”“I’ve seen Jodie’s first scene as the Doctor,” Moffat revealed, “and trust me we are in for a thrill ride. She is already brilliant. In such a tiny moment, she’s given us the Doctor we’ve always known, but in, to say the least, a new way. We are in for a very exciting run.”"
Jodie Whittaker’s first minutes
Obviously, very little has come out of the BBC about Jodie’s Doctor. Very little is to say — none. We have no idea what to expect from her Doctor other than the obvious fact that she’ll be a woman. It does seem like regenerations give us a sort-of look into what the Doctor will be like.
In Capaldi’s first few seconds, we saw the attack eyebrows, and we knew it was something more serious about his Doctor.
This sounds like it could be reminiscent of Matt Smith’s first few minutes. Ironically — when he thought he was a girl because of all his hair, and because we’re having such an emotional goodbye. At the very least, thanks to clips from the trailer, we know the First and Twelfth Doctor regenerate at some point. It’s going to be a lot of goodbyes — even if you’ve never seen the First Doctor before.
Jodie will have a huge task in front of her to complete in a few minutes:
- Stop us crying.
- Get us interested in who she is
- Get people to return in 2018.
It sounds like producers think she can do it. But time will tell if she actually will be able to.
