WiC Live: We reflect on the highs and lows of Game of Thrones season 7

facebooktwitterreddit

Welcome to a new episode of WiC Live, our Game of Thrones aftershow. And yes, we know there are no longer new episodes to go over after the fact. Instead, this week, we look back on the season as a whole. What were our favorite (and least favorite) parts the new season of Game of Thrones? Watch our ramblings above.

Some of our topics include:

  • This season was lousy with battle scenes…in a good way. Which were our favorites?
  • There weren’t a ton of major deaths this year, but at least the ones we did get — particularly Olenna’s — were scorchers.
  • Did the fact that this season had fewer episodes than usual hurt it?
  • We pick our MVPs for the season. We do not choose the same person.
  • Could Tormund Giantsbane and Beric Dondarrion have survived the fall of the Wall. We explain…with props.
  • We have nothing but praise for Lena Headey’s performance as Cersei Lannister this season, and for Cersei in general.
  • I give an impassioned defense of incest. Then I feel weird.
  • Kayla is flummoxed by the fact that, unlike on many shows, she’s not really rooting for any couples to make it on Game of Thrones. We briefly hop on a few ships and see how they feel. (Incidentally, Kayla’s still not over the show recasting Daario Naharis in season 4.)
  • Kayla brings up a fan theory that’s been making the rounds lately: Might Tyrion be secretly working for Cersei now, and does that explain why he looked worried during Jon and Dany’s love scene?
  • On the negative side of things, we criticize some of the decisions the show made regarding Arya and Sansa’s clash at Winterfell and Jon Snow’s trip north of the Wall to wrangle a wight.
  • What did we think of Bran Stark 2.0?

We’ll stream a new episode this upcoming Wednesday, September 13, at 4:00 p.m. CST on our Facebook page. Next time: a look forward to season 8.
