Doctor Who Season 9 Superlative: Most creative moment

In season nine, there was something that definitely needs to be pointed out. So, there’s a new category for season nine called Most Creative Moment. This moment is so loved by me, and other fans of the show, that I had to talk about it.

The winner is: Before the Blood’s opening theme song!

In Before The Flood, it begins with probably the most timey-wimey monologue we’ve had from the Doctor. He talks about how he loved Beethoven, but when he met him, he hadn’t composed any of the pieces. So the Doctor showed him the pieces from the future.

Which leads to this question: Did the Doctor actually compose Beethoven’s music?

Which, in and of itself is a brilliant mind blowing question. I love paradoxes and things that question whether coming from the future changed the past so that someone from the future invented something from the past.

However, not only did this have a great monologue that really gets you thinking — I mean, who DID write Beethoven’s music, if not Beethoven? — they used Peter Capaldi’s love of guitar and changed the theme song for this episode.

The theme music for this episode, rather than the traditional song we hear in every episode, and variations throughout the series, had changed completely. It was done by an electric guitar, playing the music.

I love this because it’s a great call out to Peter Capaldi. Since the beginning of season nine, he’d brought out his talent for playing guitar and include it into the show. Everyone seems to love it, and it sets him apart from the other doctors.

It’s only the completely unfortunate fact that we don’t have a season nine album to listen to it that I don’t have it on repeat every day, 24/7. It made the variation distinctly about the twelfth doctor, and I wish they had kept it longer than one episode.

What do you think was the most creative decision they made on Doctor Who in season nine?
