Doctor Who Fan Theory: A Spring Special possible for Jodie Whittaker?

Christmas Specials are what we normally think of when we think of Doctor Who. Cozying up with family members to watch Doctor Who is a time-honored tradition in most houses. It definitely is in mine!

Currently, there’s a fan theory going around that we might be seeing Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor in a special before season eleven actually airs. During Easter/Spring.

Take this with a grain or a handful of salt, but this is something I’ve seen being talked about by a lot of people on my feed. At the very least, the idea of seeing Jodie Whitaker on her own in a special is appealing to fans.

And why wouldn’t it be? But let’s look at the pros and cons.

Pros and Cons of an Easter Special – Pros:

  1. It would give us a look at a female Doctor. Think about it. Many people are going to base whether or not they come back to watch the show on a few minutes of television. It’s not enough! So, maybe it’s a good idea to give her an episode with a one-off companion, just to see what we’re getting. And, if it works, think of all the hype that it could generate for Doctor Who in the meantime!
  2. It gives her the benefit of showing off exactly what a female Time Lord can do, and what exactly the differences are — if any!
  3. With the show not coming back until the end of next year, it would give us at least one episode of Doctor Who to look forward to between the gap.

Cons:

  1. Honestly, it’s a little weird to say ‘Easter Special’, but that’s just me. However, a good name changer could always work. Spring Special? As always, people get upset at one holiday being favored over the others. Which makes complete sense in a holiday that isn’t as commercialized as Christmas. So, I say Spring Special!
  2. It puts a huge strain on one episode. To say a lot would be riding on this episode would be a huge understatement. If one thing goes wrong or doesn’t feel right, more people might bow out, rather than being able to say “one more week”.

What do you think of the idea of one more special to get used to Chibnall and  Whittaker? Should they do it?
