Jason Momoa under fire for comments, and more cast members spotted in Belfast (UPDATED)

Although he was only in one season, Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) is one of the bigger stars to come out of Game of Thrones. Next month, he’ll appear as Aquaman in the superhero blockbuster Justice League, and will play the character again in a solo movie next year. In fact, this week is technically “Aquaman week” as Warner Bros. builds hype for the release of Justice League.

It also happens to be the week after allegations of serial sexual assault committed by Hollywood super-producer Harvey Weinstein came to light. More details on that case are emerging by the minute. The flagrancy of Weinstein’s behavior, and the fact that it went on for so long, has a lot of people thinking about the how to address the problem sexual harassment in Hollywood, and pointing to other celebrities who may participate in or enable it.

It’s in this context that Jason Momoa started trending on Twitter. A video of him speaking about Game of Thrones alongside other cast and crew members at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 has surfaced, and his comments have gotten him in hot water. Watch below, although beware: it gets touchy.

Momoa says that one of the reasons he loves working in the fantasy genre is that he gets to “rape beautiful women,” which instantly makes everyone around him uneasy. He seems to know he’s crossed a line and hides his face in his shirt, but there’s no un-saying it.

UPDATE: Momoa has responded to the video on his Instagram.

Pivoting to lighter topics, the current cast members of Game of Thrones are still in Belfast, rehearsing for season 8. Plenty have been spotted around town, including Kit Harington (Jon Snow), who was reportedly sharing a drink with Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and John Bradley (Sam Tarly).

By the sound of it, cast members are discouraged from taking photos with fans, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

Plenty have been showing up in local shops, and if the proprietor is a fan, what’s Rory McCann (the Hound) to do?

Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) got around the issue by signing an autograph on a Starbucks napkin.

Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Daenerys’ right-hand woman Missandei, has been hanging out in sweet shops.

Emmanuel confirmed this report, and shared vital words of wisdom:

Indeed it is.

UPDATE: A few more cast photos have surfaced. It appears that, after she read through the season, Emilia Clarke took a sojourn to London, her platinum blonde hair still very much intact.

Elsewhere, the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms was spotted at Belfast City Airport.

Filming on Game of Thrones season 8 begins next week.
