More from Winter is Coming

Doctor Who always has rumors flying around. With the filming of series 11 starting soon, and people wanting to know about Twice Upon a Time, the Doctor Who Christmas Special, there are three rumors that are heavily being talked about.

These three rumors have good traction on Twitter and Facebook, as fans are talking abut what they know about the series finale and next one. First, we’ll focus on the one thing being talked about in the next series – a split series like season six. Then there are two huge rumors that could shake up the Christmas special if either one turns out to be true.

If you have any rumors you’ve heard about, tweet us or leave a comment and I’ll put it into our weekly rumor vortex post!

Split Series 11 – May and August

We’ve already mentioned this, but there is definite talk around Twitter amongst fan about the type of series to expect. Remember the split series? It allowed us to have more Doctor Who by giving it to us throughout the year. Why would the BBC  want to have the fandom wait a year after we just had a year off of Doctor Who in 2016, probably damaging their sales?

The solution? Many fans are talking about another split series, which Moffat did twice in season six and season seven. This works out perfectly with the 10×60 layout. 5 episodes around April or May, and 5 episodes later in the year. Fans are saying that it gives the right amount of Who, and helps give the BBC what they want, which is to start Jodie Whittaker off in the spring.

Fans aren’t just talking about the change, they want them as well. This gives time for less rushed filming, a bigger impact cliffhanger, and more of the show throughout the year. It seems like the best decision all around, studio and fans agree.

How long will the Christmas Special be?

There is too much going on in people’s minds regarding the Christmas Special. People are getting excited, and when people get excited, they start to talk.

First off: the length of the Christmas Special

This may not seem like a big detail, but when you think about it, it’s huge. The difference between 15 minutes is the difference between a rushed episode and a fantastic special. Right now, the BBC store has the special ready for preorder, with a time of 60 minutes. However, people are saying that could be a placeholder for the actual time: 75 minutes. This would put it as one of the longest episodes of New Who.

60 minutes is already a treat for Whovians, who are used to 45 minutes. A full extra 30 minutes would be a great treat for fans who want a good special that highlights The Tenth Planet, Peter Capaldi, David Bradley, and Jodie Whittaker.

If the 75-minute length is true, we’re looking at a staggeringly good chance for a fantastic goodbye.

Is Matt Smith making a cameo at Christmas?!

The second rumor going around, and gaining momentum, is the idea that Matt Smith will somehow make the episode. To me, this would be a case of being so overwhelming, it could backfire. We already have the first doctor meeting the twelfth. We don’t need the Eleventh Doctor in there as well.

However, there was an idea I saw on Twitter, I don’t take credit for this idea, that the three Doctors would be making some kind of phone call to each other. This would be an interesting throwback to the beginning of Peter Capaldi’s era, where Matt Smith made a cameo in his first episode.

Perhaps they’re thinking something like that? But people are talking a LOT about this one. If Matt Smith does come and make a cameo, I hope they at least keep Capaldi in the middle of it all.
