Things are happening for one of Game of Thrones’ leading ladies. Deadline reports that Sophie “Sansa Stark” Turner, who’s currently heading in and out of Belfast to shoot Game of Thrones season 8, will produce and star in Girl Who Fell From the Sky, from Lotus Entertainment and Stan & Deliver Films.
When I heard the title, my mind jumped right to the idea of Turner playing some kind of alien superhero, because that’s the world we’re living in. It’s actually based on the true story of Juliane Koepcke, who was the sole survivor of a 1971 plane crash in the Peruvian rain forest. After her seat was ejected from the plane, Koepcke fell almost two miles before hitting the forest canopy, which slowed her descent. She then struggled through the forest for 11 days before getting rescued.
The movie is based on the book of the same name written by Koepcke herself. This could be a huge project for Turner, because it’s basically just her, the jungle, and what I can assume are grotesquely oversized bugs for pretty much the whole thing. And because she’s also producing, she’ll have more control than if she was just an actor for hire. Way to forge her own path.
Meanwhile, Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) actually is portraying a superhero — Aquaman — in the upcoming Justice League, out November 17. But as he told the Hindustan Times, it could have gone very differently. “When Zack first approached me, it was a bit of a mystery because when I went in for the audition, he wanted me to read for Batman,” he said.
Of course, that role ended up going to Ben Affleck, for better for worse, something that was apparently already set when Momoa went in to his audition.
"So, I knew something fishy was going on and just read the lines with a lot of attitude, like I didn’t care what was on the page. And then Zack said to me ‘Do you know who I want you to play?’ I said ‘Oh yeah, I’ll be a villain or some bad dude who comes in and fights Batman – sounds like fun.’ And he said ‘I want you to play Aquaman’’’"
