Jason Momoa to star in The Crow reboot, and George R.R. Martin explores his Sekret Heritage

As usual, the lovable band of misfits that make up the cast and crew of Game of Thrones are up to no good when not filming the final season of HBO’s mega-hit. Let’s visit.

First, Song of Ice and Fire creator George R.R. Martin took some time out from finishing The Winds of Winter (we kid) to film an episode of PBS’s Finding Your Roots. For those unfamiliar with the show, various celebrities allow Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. to test their DNA, and then Dr. Gates tells them something surprising about their family history. (Sometimes it gets dicey, as when Ben Affleck asked the show to exclude a bit where it revealed that his ancestors owned slaves.) As Martin wrote on his Not a Blog, he was no different.

Is Martin a distant relative of Genghis Khan? Is he descended from Caligula? Is he actually a Sekret Targaryen? We’ll have to wait until Finding Your Roots season 5 comes out next year to find out.

Making us wait to find out someone’s true heritage…such a Martin thing to do.

Elsewhere, former Thrones star and current Thrones hanger-outer Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) confirmed his involvement in The Crow Reborn, a reboot of The Crow franchise. The internet picked up on it when Momoa tagged Reborn’s director, Corin Hardy, in an Instagram post:

Hardy responded, confirming the news:

There’s no word on a release date, but Crow creator James O’Barr has said that the film will begin pre-production in February 2018. Momoa’s intensity should serve him well in a series like this, and promises to raise his profile even further after his debut as Aquaman in Justice League this weekend.

And in happier news, Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) is making the rounds on glossy magazine spreads the world over. Here she is in British Vogue...

…and here on the cover of Swedish photography rag Kamera and Bild.

Come season 8, hopefully Brienne will be as happy as Christie looks on the cover of British Vogue…but we’re not counting on it.

Next: Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) would return for a Game of Thrones prequel
