This month, Doctor Who Magazine released pictures that bring us more information about the Christmas Special. The photos specifically focus on Ben, Polly and the First Doctor — a trio we haven’t seen much of.

As you can see, the pictures of the characters are spot on from the original — only this time in technicolor!

Besides pictures, the magazine also gave an inside look by giving us an interview with the two actors playing the companions: Jason Garfield and Lily Travers. For those who don’t know the actors, Garfield is a former Hollyoaks star, like the upcoming companions Mandip and Tosin. Currently, he’s a professional dancer and co-runs the Protocol Dance Company.

Lily Travers who is playing Polly, is known for her family of famous actors, including Penelope Wilton, who played Harriet Jones. Travers has recently played Lady Sophie Montague-Herring in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Lady Pamela Mountbatten in Viceroy’s House. Between these two, we have an amazing duo of talent!

However, it doesn’t just stop at the talent between the two companions and David Bradley. The article has a funny anecdote about Lily Travers covering for Bradley while he snoozed on set, only if he would do the same late! What can you do? You work long hours on Doctor Who!

According to the Doctor Who casting director, it was important that they didn’t find exact lookalikes of the original actors, Michael and Anneke.

"“We stressed that we didn’t want an absolute replica of Michael and Anneke’s performances. It was very important that the actors felt able to give a performance they were comfortable with, rather than trying to do an impersonation. Jared and Lily really understood what we were asking of them."

Anneke Wills will be turning in at Christmas!

"“Absolutely. I’ve already told my son, ‘You’re doing the cooking. I’m watching Doctor Who.’ The whole thing is completely intriguing.”"

If you want to know more about the Doctor Who Magazine edition covering the Christmas Special, you can order one edition for $4.99 or £4.99. Find all about the companions who will be making an appearance!
