News: BBC releases synopsis for Doctor Who’s Twice Upon a Time
BBC, Doctor Who Christmas Special 2017
We’re all excited for the new Doctor, but before we see the change, there’s one more Doctor Who episode with Peter Capaldi. What can we expect?
The BBC finally has released a synopsis for Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie’s final episode of Doctor Who. The synopsis, which is very long, shows us what to expect in the matter of what to expect, and how much we’re probably going to cry.
"“The magical final chapter of the Twelfth Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) journey sees the Time Lord team up with his former self, the first ever Doctor (David Bradley – Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) and a returning Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), for one last adventure. Two Doctors stranded in an Arctic snowscape, refusing to face regeneration. Enchanted glass people, stealing their victims from frozen time. And a World War One captain destined to die on the battlefield, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor’s story. An uplifting new tale about the power of hope in humanity’s darkest hours, Twice Upon A Time marks the end of an era. But as the Doctor must face his past to decide his future, his journey is only just beginning…”"
Since a paragraph-long synopsis can only mean that we’re going to have a lot to deal with, lets break this down as best we can. The synopsis also leaves us with some questions, as any good one would.
“Enchanted glass people, stealing their victims from frozen time.”
It looks like on top of the Mondasian Cybermen, there’s going to be a new villain. These people must have some way that Bill comes back. Maybe she gets in trouble and happens to end up in the same place as the Doctor?
“And a World War One captain destined to die on the battlefield, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor’s story.”
“Destined to die”. I’ll leave you with your assumptions.
“But as the Doctor must face his past to decide his future, his journey is only just beginning…”
This is probably a pun on the fact that we’re seeing the Twelfth and the First Doctor, as well as the regenerations.
Questions we have:
Clara?
We already have multiple people in this episode, and it looks like it’s going to be packed with action to the very end. Will we have time for the Doctor’s forgotten best friend to come back? Will we see someone else instead? The glass people could be how we see Clara, but the question of whether or not the Doctor will remember still stands.
The Second Doctor?
If we see the first Doctor regenerate, will the Second Doctor make an appearance? Could we see a bit of Patrick Troughton?
This episode seems to have everything it needs to be a great swan song for the Twelfth Doctor. I only hope that it doesn’t feel too packed with action that we lose what the episode is supposed to be about — a goodbye to the Twelfth Doctor. However, if Moffat is able to pull this off, it could be the best episode he’s written.
