Doctor Who: Will the Doctor start out season eleven with no TARDIS?

The Doctor Falls wasn’t just the Twelfth Doctor’s penultimate Doctor Who episode, it’s also perfect to describe the Thirteenth Doctor’s first moments!

At the end of Twice Upon a Time, the Thirteenth Doctor, newly regenerated, fell from her TARDIS into the abyss. Normally, we could expect the TARDIS to come back, possibly materialize around her and catch he fall. With a new showrunner, who knows what to expect?

Here’s what we definitely know:

  • The TARDIS is going to be destroyed
  • The console is going to be brand new, meaning that for at least an episode, the TARDIS will be gone.

But what if Chibnall took an idea from the Jon Pertwee era? At the end of the Second Doctor’s era, he was exiled to Earth by the Time Lords and forced to regenerate. Because of this, Jon Pertwee’s Doctor spent a significant time on Earth, with certain parts of his memory taken away. He stayed like this for five years, until the Time Lords gave back his memories and his ability to leave Earth after he defeated the Time Lord Omega in The Three Doctors.

Obviously, we won’t have such a dramatic plot line. If anything, the Doctor will be Earthbound for a couple of episodes while the TARDIS changes itself. We know the Thirteenth Doctor will use the TARDIS, as there are pictures of the console prototype. However, it would still be interesting to see what the Doctor would do without a TARDIS.

This could be a huge part of how the Doctor meets the three companions. The last memorable time the Doctor has been on Earth without a TARDIS, he was with Craig. With a brand new Doctor still regenerating, it will be interesting to see how the way she acts during her first hows plays into the first episode.

What do you think about the Doctor being Earthbound for a couple of episodes?
