Game of Thrones leaves Golden Globes empty-handed
By Dan Selcke
Game of Thrones was once again nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Drama last night, and once again, it didn’t win. Here’s what it was up against:
- The Handmaid’s Tale (WINNER)
- Game of Thrones
- Stranger Things
- This Is Us
- The Crown
The result isn’t a surprise, although some fans were still miffed. Game of Thrones has been nominated in this category for four years in a row, and it’s never won. Last year, the first season of The Crown won Best Drama. Before that, it was Mr. Robot season 1. Before that, The Affair season 1. Back in 2012, Game of Thrones season 1 lost to Homeland season 1. (Seasons 2 and 3 weren’t nominated.) Basically, the Globes tend to favor new series, although we wonder if they’ll change their tune for Game of Thrones’ final season next year.
But that doesn’t mean there weren’t some good moments for Thrones fans. For example, Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington looked smashing while presenting the award for Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy…
…and for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy:
They looked smashing all around, really.

Below, Clarke gets a little looser at the Golden Globes afterparty:
Other cast members were there, as well, including Gwendoline Christie…

Headey and Coster-Waldau, as always, looked good together. Insert incest joke here.

Although
Jaime
Coster-Waldau spent plenty of time with other people:

Cersei is not pleased:
Members of the crew were present, too, including showrunner David Benioff and executive producer Bernie Caulfield:
Also this…
…and this:
Everyone from the Game of Thrones cast and crew was wore black, announcing their solidarity with and support for women in Hollywood who have been abused and discriminated against by people in power, an issue that exploded last year following revelations about mega-producer Harvey Weinstein. Clarke commented on the movement at the afterparty:
Game of Thrones won’t air any new episodes this year, so it won’t feature in the next Golden Globes. After that, though…
Next: Game of Thrones will return to Dubrovnik one last time to film scenes for season 8
