Fans suspected that Jimmi Simpson would return in Westworld Season 2, but now we finally have confirmation from the actor.
Jimmi Simpson played the younger version of William in Westworld Season 1, but fans were unsure if he’d return. The first season of HBO’s hit show followed 2 timelines, and by all accounts, Young William’s story had been told by the finale. Thankfully, it appears Young William’s story isn’t finished, and Jimmi Simpson will be making in appearance in Season 2.
Jimmi Simpson Confirms That Young William Will Make An Appearance In Westworld Season 2
While talking with reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour (via EW), Simpson had this to say regarding his role in Season 2:
"“I mean, yeah, I pop in.”"
Simpson continued, and spoke about what he wished to see from the show:
"“I wish there was exploration between the time when Williams’ heart was broken, and we see the result. I want to know how much it takes and how hard he tried to not go there. But I don’t write the story.”"
Simpson’s comments are intriguing, but there are also a bit disheartening. He is speaking of William’s transformation into the Man in Black (Ed Harris); however, it sounds like the show won’t explore that part of his life in Season 2. We saw Young William don the black hat in Season 1, but it would’ve been awesome to see more of his transformation.
The Man in Black told stories about how he became who he is, but we weren’t shown much of what happened in those 30 years. In fairness, Westworld Season 2 has a lot of ground to cover, so, it makes sense that Young William would take a back seat. It’s possible that Simpson isn’t telling the whole truth about his role in Season 2. But, even if he is, William’s story could be explored in future Seasons.
Westworld Season 2 will premiere Spring 2018.
