Who will sit upon the Iron Throne at the end of the story? That’s one the oldest questions facing Game of Thrones fans. From King Robert to Joffrey to Tommen to Cersei Lannister, many have sat the chair, though few for long. With the show filming its eighth and final season, people are asking the question more than ever, and professionals are here to help find the answer. To wit, the Leicester Mercury reports that bookies are taking odds on who will sit the Iron Throne when the music stops. The game of thrones is big money.
Check out the full odds for all the remaining characters as compiled by London-based bookmaker William Hill:
Jon Snow: 9/4
Daenerys Targaryen: 4/1
Cersei Lannister: 7/1
The Night King: 8/1
Tyrion Lannister: 10/1
Bran Stark: 12/1
Gendry: 12/1
Samwell Tarly: 12/1
Sansa Stark: 12/1
Arya Stark: 14/1
Euron Greyjoy: 20/1
Jaime Lannister: 25/1
Varys: 50/1
Theon Greyjoy: 66/1
Ser Davos Seaworth: 80/1
Yara Greyjoy: 80/1
Brienne of Tarth: 100/1
Jaqen H’ghar: 100/1
Melisandre: 100/1
Gilly: 250/1
Per William Hill, “he winner of this market will be whichever character rules the seven kingdoms of Westeros from the Iron Throne at the end of the TV series. Bets void if no ruler. Dead heat rules apply.” If you ask us, no ruler is a very possible choice. And why isn’t Tormund on this list?
As for the odds we get, it’s interesting that Jon Snow is a slight favorite over Daenerys Targaryen. Newfound romance aside, if Jon gets the Iron Throne, it means that Dany has either stepped aside or died. It’s also unsettling to see the Night King ranked so highly.
This is fun and all, but someone give us odds on whether Ghost appears in season 8. Or if Brienne ends up with Tormund.
As it stands, we’re pulling for you, Gilly.
