BBC, Doctor Who

Recently, we made a post about Doctor Who picking up its bags and heading to South Africa. Though we don’t know much about the episode, pictures from the set have emerged, giving us a bit of an idea what to expect.

First, for anyone excited to see Jodie Whittaker in her costume, we have a picture of her, in costume, on set.

Okay, let’s break this picture down. First, how great is it to see to see our Thirteenth Doctor in action?! While we’ve only seen her in very few promotional pictures, this is a whole new way to see her! Around her, we get some ideas of the time period that the episode will be set in.

As you can see from the car parked in front of them, it’s a vintage car. And, though it’s small, there’s a sign that says “We cater to white trade only”. Most likely, this means the episode will have something to do with the apartheid.

It looks like Chris Chibnall isn’t afraid to be tackling the big issues from the past. Apartheid in South Africa lingered until 1991. It started in 1948, which looks more like where we’ll be traveling.

Taken from a Facebook account name “Apple Tart”, these pictures show many vintage cars that give us an idea of the time period. I can’t think of many Doctor Who stories that go into the not-so-distant past, so this will be a great story! Not to mention showing what apartheid was like in South Africa.

Is it possible Chris Chibnall could be giving us back the ‘history lesson’ portion of Doctor Who that was the original concept? I’ve always wanted stories from the 40’s, so this is a personal interest of mine.

What time period do you think the Doctor should visit? Do you like past stories?
