Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) reveals season 8 is “about halfway through filming”

After a relatively quiet stretch, it seems Game of Thrones season 8 news is coming at us faster than Gendry made it back to the Wall. Earlier this week, we got an idea of where the opening scene of season 8 would take place, and now, courtesy of Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) we might have learned how much longer the cast and crew will be shooting. Speaking with Variety, Dinklage revealed that season 8 is “about halfway through filming.”
"It’s the final season, and it’s a long one so we’re taking our time."
Filming on season 8 began around October of 2017. By Dinklage’s reckoning, that would put the end around April. That doesn’t quite line up with previous estimates that put the conclusion around the summer of 2018. Of course, Dinklage did say “about halfway,” which could mean anything.
Either way, with the show coming to an end, Dinklage agrees with cast members like Sophie Turner (Sansa) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow) that the time is right. “It’s time. Storywise, not just for all our lives. It’s the perfect time to end it. Sometimes shows stay on a little too long, the jumping-the-shark thing.”
The last thing we would want is for Game of Thrones to jump the shark. And just because the cast believe the time is right for the series to end doesn’t make it any easier on them. “It’s bittersweet when it’s time to move on with everything,” Dinklage said. “It’s always the sad part of our business, because you get pockets of great people for short amounts of time and then you have to move on and it’s always heartbreaking. Especially when you’ve spent more than a couple months with people.”
