HBO finally released the second trailer for Westworld Season 2, but is it what fans were hoping for?

After waiting over a year, Westworld fans were thrilled when EW announced a new trailer for Season 2 would premiere during the Super Bowl. This announcement officially kicked off HBO’s marketing campaign for Westworld Season 2. Following the announcement, Westworld’s official Twitter account brought itself back online, and promoted the new season at a fever pitch.

In response to the sudden promotion, there was a groundswell of excitement for Westworld Season 2 on all social media platforms. To be fair, we didn’t quite know what to expect from Westworld’s Super Bowl trailer. But, we figured it wouldn’t be a full trailer, since a Super Bowl ad cost $5 million for a 30-second spot. In any case, just the idea of new footage was enough to satiate any lofty expectations from fans.

Well, the wait is officially over, and we have finally seen the glory that is Westworld’s Season 2 Super Bowl trailer! It was incredible to see some of our favorite characters again, but it also hinted at the chaos to come. So, was the Westworld Season 2 Super Bowl spot everything we thought it would be? You bet your ass it was! Let’s take a quick look at the latest footage from Westworld Season 2.

Westworld Season 2 Trailer Premieres During The Super Bowl

The new trailer confirms that Westworld Season 2 is going to be insane. Everything we experienced in Season 1 was leading up to Ford’s narrative, which is officially underway. Based on the previous footage released at SDCC 2017, we knew that Dolores has rallied troops to her cause. We saw her and Teddy hunting down park patrons, and seemingly taking control of the park.

This new footage shows that Delores and company are going to raze Delos to the ground. Moreover, they are setting their sights on the outside world. If anything, this new trailer confirms that chaos will rain down on everyone that stands between the hosts and there goal.

Westworld’s Super Bowl Ad Confirms Chaos Will Reign In Season 2

This trailer shows that everything fans were promised from Season 2 will come to pass. Dolores and the hosts have begun their journey towards sentience, and they will do anything to break free from Delos. This concept falls in line with comments made by Westworld co-creator Jonathan Nolan, who had this to say during an official segment on HBO last year:

"“If the first season was defined by control, the second season is defined by chaos, that’s what Ford has been planning all along.”"

Nolan’s wife, and Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy confirmed that chaos will be the driving theme of Season 2. While attending the 2017 Emmys, Joy had this to say regarding Westworld‘s new season:

"“In season one everything was calm. You kind of understood that the thing that was awakening within the robots could lead to some sort of outbreak. Now, the outbreak has happened, and we find the park in a very different place. So, the entire setup is kind of a bit different.”"

The new trailer confirms Nolan and Joy’s comments, but it also gave us some scope of the chaos. For now, the hosts seem to be contained to the park; however, it’s only a matter of time before things escalate. We will do a more in-depth break down of the footage soon, but for now, we can’t wait for the new season of Westworld to premiere!

We still have a few months until Westworld Season 2 drops. Until then, we will continue to speculate on anything and everything Westworld.

Westworld Season 2 will premiere on HBO Sunday, April 22, 2018 9PM/EST
